    Why this role exists

We already operate a public web product, interactive map, forecasting services, REST API, MCP server, and a large public-record data surface. We need a senior product engineer to turn those components into one secure, reliable, understandable customer product while increasing release speed.

    What you will own

    • Build customer-facing capabilities across the web application, interactive map, API, and MCP server.
    • Own authenticated accounts, permissions, usage metering, access controls, and developer activation.
    • Turn research and model outputs into useful scenario, forecast, comparison, export, and collaboration features.
    • Own production reliability, observability, incident response, deployment safety, and performance.
    • Establish security and compliance foundations for government and enterprise evaluations.
    • Improve application and data-service architecture across TypeScript, React, Next.js, PostgreSQL, Supabase, Cloudflare, and geospatial services.
    • Build internal tools that make model, data, and product releases safer and easier to verify.
    • Work directly with early users and translate their problems into product decisions.
    • Write clear technical plans, architecture decisions, operating playbooks, and post-incident reviews.
    • Help establish engineering standards and participate in later engineering hiring.

    FIRST 90 DAYS

    Establish the foundation

    • Produce a production architecture and reliability assessment with an agreed priority list.
    • Ship at least one important customer-facing capability across the full stack.
    • Establish service-level indicators, alerts, incident ownership, and a release checklist for critical surfaces.
    • Define the authenticated developer path from account creation through a successful API or MCP request.
    • Document the highest-risk security, data-access, and scalability gaps with concrete remediation plans.

    6 TO 12 MONTHS

    Create durable proof

    • A new agency or enterprise evaluator can use the product without founder-led technical setup.
    • API and MCP access are authenticated, metered, documented, and supportable.
    • Production incidents are observable, assigned, and resolved through a repeatable operating process.
    • Research capabilities reach customers through stable product releases.
    • Infrastructure and serving costs are measured and controlled.

    What we are looking for

    • Six or more years building production software, including meaningful backend or platform ownership.
    • Ownership of a product capability from user discovery through deployment and iteration.
    • Strong TypeScript or comparable backend engineering ability and experience with React-based products.
    • Experience with PostgreSQL, cloud infrastructure, observability, CI/CD, security, and incident response.
    • Sound architecture judgment under early-stage constraints.
    • Clear written communication and experience working directly with founders or customers.

    Helpful, not required

    • Maps, geospatial systems, high-volume data products, forecasting, or scientific software.
    • Developer platforms, public APIs, MCP servers, usage metering, or enterprise access controls.
    • Government, infrastructure, utilities, real estate, climate, or planning software.
    • Applied AI systems with rigorous evaluation and non-deterministic failure handling.
    Role boundary

This is not a pure site-reliability position, a frontend-only position, or an internal-tools position. You must ship customer product and own the production foundations beneath it.

    Compensation and working terms

$285,000 target base salary, 5% target variable compensation, and a 1.25% target equity grant. Final terms depend on experience, location, and the approved offer package.

New York City is preferred. We will consider exceptional candidates elsewhere in the United States.
